Hi, my name is Anka Wolbert. I’m a web developer and I build customised websites for clients. As WordPress grew in popularity over the past ten years, I specialised as a WordPress developer. I develop websites using the original WordPress open software – not the commercialised WordPress.com online editor. I design and customise themes, and can build and update any website.
I like the combination of the technical and creative elements that make up web design. The web is an interactive medium and websites need to be functional by nature. Combine this with information, key messages and branding, and you get a fascinating mix.
I moved between three cities over the years – London, New York and Amsterdam – before moving to the village of Bridge, near Canterbury, Kent. I started out as a musician in the mid-1980s, signing to London indie music label 4AD in my early 20s. I swapped the music industry for the web in the late 90s and have been working as a web developer since 2000.
I love design in general – from graphic design, to the design of a chair, to UX design. As a student I started out as a screen print designer at the Milky Way, a famous music venue in Amsterdam. I also really enjoy and get inspired by photography. You can find some of my photos here: www.ankadesign.co.uk.
I have a Masters degrees in Psychology and a BSc degree in Computer Science. I love working with local businesses and I’m particularly interested in the psychology behind web design, and how to make the web a more enjoyable experience.
I’ve been in business for 20 years and have built and worked on hundreds of websites.
